NEMACO is a social enterprise that works with fishing communities along the southern coast of Madagascar. It sells sustainably fished, high quality seafood products to customers in Toliara as well as along national road n° 7, all the way to Antananarivo (Capital), almost 1000 km away.

Fontana Foundation bought a refrigerated car for NEMACO, allowing them to transport the seafood products to customers and thus ensure the cold chain and the freshness of the products.

The fresh seafood is bought daily, year-round and directly from the fishermen in remote villages at a fair price. Giving fishermen access to a local point of sale and larger markets, they achieve stable incomes.

The fishing communities not only benefit from the sale of the seafood, but also from basic infrastructure provided by NEMACO at so-called Nexus centers. At these centers they have access to drinking water, electricity and the ice needed to keep the fish fresh.
